Tobi Bolaji Idowu
Tobi Bolaji Idowu is a curator and arts program manager whose work engages the intersections of art, museology, and social practice. With a background in Sociology and Anthropology, his practice examines how archival and contemporary artistic positions can contribute to shaping resilient communities and spaces that remain in dialogue with heritage and the future.
His research interests focus on uncovering colonial and postcolonial frameworks that trail African arts, museums, and archival public institutions, while reimagining and vitalising these spaces for more inclusive and accessible engagement today. This extends into facilitation and project coordination, including the NGA Inventory and Conservation Project (Goethe-Institut Nigeria X National Gallery of Art Nigeria, 2025) and the Connecting the Dots Museum Project (Goethe-Institut Nigeria, 2023–2025). He also programs the Ethereal Futures Lab at the Didi Museum (2025), where, together with the MAiMF collective, he explores the evolution of African indigenous epistemologies in a digital age.
Tobi has contributed to curatorial projects at ART X Lagos since 2019. He has participated in international fellowships and exchanges, including the Rave/IFA Research Fellowship at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne (2025) and the Itinéraire Culture Seminar in Paris (2022). He regularly contributes to dialogues on collection management, cultural stewardship, and anti-colonial artistic and scholarly positions, and leads workshops on research-led art and social practice.
